Our bodies can heal themselves

If asked who the best doctor in the world is, many of us would have lists of names running through our minds but isn’t it mind blowing that the body is actually its own best doctor! The body comes with an in-built mechanism that takes care of injuries, can fight infections or cancer cells as well as repair wear and tear that comes with ageing.

Whilst there is nothing wrong with seeking medical treatment, it’s important to know that depending on the type of ailment you are facing, left to their own devices our bodies know exactly what to do.

If you get a cut or tear on your skin, platelets in your blood automatically clot to stop loss of blood, and cells replicate and replace damaged ones.  Thereafter your white blood cells remove dead cells from the body.

Mucus plays the role of trapping foreign matter and prevents it from getting into the system. Inflammation, while being a nuisance to the sufferer, is the body’s way of gathering immune resources to the site so that repair work can take place. A fever is the body’s way of rising temperatures so high that infections can die.

Our job is to keep our bodies in the best shape possible in order to optimise their self-healing ability. This is where a lot of us derail this well-oiled machine because there is no escaping the discipline required in order to keep the immune system strong and able to fight off diseases. There is no substitute for a well-balanced diet and regular exercise. Exercise stimulates blood flow, bringing nutrients to cells and carrying toxins away. Stem cells replicate and regenerate themselves in order to repair damaged tissue and maintain steady internal physical and chemical conditions needed by the body to survive. Given the right nutrients and amount of exercise, the body’s immune system runs smoothly. The role of the immune system is to sense foreign subjects, produce anti-bodies to fight and lastly, activate memory cells that stay in the body for a long time in order to be able to fight the same pathogen should it recur. All this does not mean that we don’t require medical assistance at all. Some people are born with defects that prevent their bodies from functioning the way they should.

So, in light of all this, we need to preserve this self-healing ability that our bodies possess and if we feel we must seek intervention it must be the best kind. The best treatment for any ailment should involve the least amount of interference with the biological processes that are already going on. Natural Therapists Council of Zimbabwe (NTCZ) is a regulatory body that registers and licences practitioners who promote the body’s natural healing processes. Our practitioners include Naturopaths, Homeopaths, Traditional Chinese Medical Practitioners, Acupuncturists, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Herbalists (Herbal Doctors), Ayurveda Practitioners, Aromatherapists, Reflexologists, Aestheticians, Massage Practitioners and more. The list is currently growing. It is unwise to seek treatment from an unlicensed medical provider because you have no way of knowing how well they know their work. We always welcome enquires from people seeking natural medical assistance or practitioners who need to register, as is required by law (Health Professions Act Ch27:19).
