Differences between natural medicine & modern medicine
Advanced information technology is the ongoing blessing and curse that modern life has for us to enjoy and endure. Information about anything and everything under the sun is readily available at the tapping of a few keys on one’s computer or phone. The blessing there is obviously the fact that we are learning every day. Ignorance is no longer excusable when research has become so much faster and easier. What could be wrong about that? Well, unfortunately, information in the wrong hands is as deadly as a missile. With that much information, one needs to carefully sift through it and determine what’s accurate and what’s not. When it comes to serious issues such as health, it’s best to go to trained professionals and not just rely on the internet or street media.
All of this has so much importance when it comes to understanding the difference between natural medicine and modern/conventional medicine. Both forms of medicine can complement each other but the key is to know when and how to employ which form of treatment. Here are some differences between that will help with decision making;
Natural medicine
- Uses naturally derived substances such as herbs and food.
- Takes a holistic approach which aims to rectify emotional, mental and spiritual factors associated with ailments.
- Medicines are mostly harvested from plants.
- Most therapies require repeat sessions and are great for ailments that can be rectified over time.
Modern medicine
- Uses synthetic drugs and surgery. While they recommend good diet and exercise it’s usually recommended as an addition to drugs.
- Often targets specific symptoms and areas of the body that the patient complains about.
- Medicines are manufactured in laboratories from synthetic materials and some incorporate plant elements.
- Definitely best in cases of emergency where there is, for example, rapid loss of blood, foreign objects that need to be removed from the body or cases where resuscitation procedures have to be carried out.
NTCZ is a Council, mandated by the Health Professions Act Ch27 : 19, Section VI to ensure its registered Practitioners who use natural methods to boost the body’s self-healing ability, treat diseases without adding synthetic material to the system and put in place preventive measures for the same and other ailments. The Councils mandate is to ensure public safety by scrutinising member qualifications and guiding them through safe ways to go about running their practices. Our directory has a diverse list of Practitioners with vast experience in their respective fields. Always consult a health professional when making health decision.
