The truth about Acupuncture – ancient wisdom, modern relief

Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique in which very thin needs are inserted into different parts of the body to alleviate pain, stress and other ailments. The focus of the treatment is believed to be to balance the body’s vital energy flow through pathways called meridians. The energy flow is known as the qi (pronounced chi) in Chinese. Disruption of this qi is what is thought to result in health problems. Scientifically, it is believed to work by stimulating nerves and tissues to release natural relievers such as endorphins. Acupuncture may also release certain brain chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine, which reduce stress and pain.
